In 2023, Art Island created a 56-foot tall collectively-made tapestry named "1,000 Hands," a tribute to the 500 Austinites who contributed to the endeavor. The project began with a Burning Man Honorarium grant and a dedicated team of creators meticulously crafted the piece over several months, culminating in its installation in Black Rock City, Nevada. "1,000 Hands" became a prominent feature on the playa.
The installation's transformative narrative, representing the delicate balance between the challenges we face today and the hopes for tomorrow, struck a chord with audiences. Its presence at Burning Man, a globally recognized celebration of art and creativity, marked a significant achievement and an inspiring showcase of how collective effort can breathe life into a powerful artistic vision.
